A collection of texts on Jews and Judaism on perishable material from Egypt: 330 BCE to 700 CE

Die Judaistin Tal Ilan von der Freien Universität Berlin (FU Berlin) stellt mit Unterstützung der Einstein Stiftung eine neue Sammlung von über 150 Texten aus dem antiken Ägypten zusammen, die von der Bedeutung des Judentums in dieser Weltregion zeugen.

In this project we intend to collect, correct, update, and sometimes publish for this first time the evidence for Jews in post-biblical antiquity, extant on papyri, ostraca, and parchment from Egypt. This means more than 150 Greek and Latin documents from Egypt published after 1964, therefore not included in the Corpus Papyrorum Judaicarum, as well papyri in Aramic, Hebrew, Demotic, and also literary papyri not indcluded in the previous collection.
