Anti-establishment ideology in democratic Athens
The project aims to advance our understanding of political power and leadership in democratic Athens during the fifth and fourth centuries BC. It will open new frontiers of investigation in the research on political configurations in ancient Athens by actively engaging with current trends in political science: the New Institutionalism and the scholarship on anti-establishment parties. The project will argue that an anti-establishment ideology informed Athenian institutions and discourse and influenced the nature of power in the democracy.
