Motion verbs in Ancient Greek and Ancient Egyptian

This project shed some more light on the encoding of motion events in Ancient Greek and Ancient Egyptian/Coptic by putting forward a corpus-based, diachronic study of motion verbs in the two languages. Unlike previous studies, the proposed study will treat motion verbs as constructions (i.e., conventionalized pairings of meaning and form) and, in doing so, it will attempt to highlight the role played by cultural and text-type/genre features in motivating the encoding of motion events in the two languages.
