Seeing is Believing: Winckelmann, Visual Ideals, and the Exeperimental Reframing of Archaeological Objects

The aim of the project is to advance the methodology of Classical Archaeology by situating it within the extensive research tradition originating with Winckelmann and incorporating the use of plaster casts as an educational medium during the 17th and 18th centuries. Consequently, the project can be seen as a contextual analysis of the literary background and research practice in its aspiration to draw attention to the modernistic inclinations in present-day research and contribute to innovative and more intuitive ways of engaging with archaeological objects in both research and exhibition practice.
