Exploring Aristotle’s Homonymy of the Body
The topic of the project is the contrast between the hylomorphic explanation of living beings and the thesis of the homonymy of the body in Aristotle’s An. II 1. This tension arises from the contingent specification requirement of matter (hylomorphism) and the necessity for the body of a living being to be informed by the soul (homonymy of the body). The aim is to demonstrate that there may be an underlying material level that is contingently informed.
