Development of insula IX 2 in Pompeii between the 3rd century BC and 79 AD

Pompeii’s urban development, from its foundation in the 6th century BC to its destruction in AD 79, remains a subject of ongoing debate. This dissertation investigates Insula IX 2, a strategically located city block along the Via Stabiana that has received little scholarly attention. Building on MA research on one of its houses, the project aims to reconstruct the insula’s architectural and socio-economic development between the 3rd century BC and AD 79. By examining this urban unit as a whole, it seeks to contribute to broader discussions on the evolution of Pompeii’s urban landscape.
