The Archaeology of Ritual in Early Rome

Within the framework of the archaeology of the sacred and with a focus on Orientalising and Archaic Rome, this thesis project researches the constitution of a sacred landscape in the context of the urbanisation process (from the second half of the 8th to the early 5th century BC). The project aims to investigate the strategies of land occupation adopted during the ‘making of a city’ by focusing, in particular, on ritual practices associated with key moments of sacro-political places, such as foundation, restoration/modification, and abandonment.
