Landscape as a Palimpsest – Göbekli Tepe and the Rewriting of Landscapes, Settlements, and Memorial Practices in the Post-Neolithic

The Harran plain and its surrounding mountains represent a landscape with one of the longest sequences of continuous sedentary occupation, stretching back to Early Neolithic Göbekli Tepe. Hitherto, research has focused on the earlier Pre-Pottery Neolithic landscape of Göbekli Tepe, neglecting later periods. The project investigates post-PPN palimpsests of human-landscape interaction within the landscape of Göbekli Tepe and its surrounding hinterland, examining how economic practices, social memory, and material traces shaped its longue durée.
